5 tips for choosing the right activewear

Follow Us:

The pandemic has highlighted the importance of working out regularly. However, to stay comfortable while working out, you need to wear the right clothes. This does not mean that you need to spend a fortune in activewear clothes.

Whether you work out in the gym or in your home, take time to choose the right activewear. From long sleeve workout crop top to comfortable shoes and capris, we will help you pick the right clothes for your workout.

Let’s get started!

1 Consider Your Requirements

Before you choose activewear, it is crucial to determine your requirements.

What kind of workouts do you usually do? Do you go to the gym or work out in your home? Do you do weight training, or are you a runner?

After you’ve answered these questions, consider these factors as well:

  • The number of hours you exercise daily
  • The number of days your work out indoors vs. outdoors.
  • Seasonal clothes
  • The weather of your locality

If you know the weather in your area is going to be hot, you should avoid clothes that might make you potentially uncomfortable during the workout (same for the cold).

2 Pick the Right Fabric

Fabric is one of the most important aspects to consider when picking your activewear. While low-quality items with a cheaper tag might seem attractive, they can make you really uncomfortable while working out.

Also, avoid focusing on the looks. Instead, focus on the fabric of the cloth. It is best to avoid 100% cotton fabric as it can absorb moisture easily, resulting in a soaked t-shirt that can cause skin irritation. Plus, you will likely feel cold after you’ve completed your workout.

If you work out outdoors, we recommend choosing moisture-wicking fabrics so they can pull moisture away from your body. This will help you maintain your body temperature while you work out extensively.

You can even opt for polyester material as it protects you from UV rays. Though it could be expensive, as we mentioned above, 2-3 quality materials are way better than 5-6 low-quality ones.

3 Form and Fit

Fit is as important as picking the right fabric. If the clothes are too baggy or too tight, you will feel uncomfortable working out wearing those clothes for a longer time. As a result, you will be demotivated to exercise.

For instance, if you are doing a high-intensity workout, you need a comfortable sports bra as opposed to a strappy top. You also need clothes that don’t restrict your range of motion and help hold everything in place.

Whether you purchase activewear online or offline, make sure they’re comfortable even when worn for hours. Again, invest in good pieces that last for months rather than cheap items that need replacement every now and then.

4 Prioritize flexibility

Does this need to be stressed enough? Flexibility should be your #1 priority when picking activewear. You would not want to restrict your range of motion when doing squats or cardio. Though shorts are good during leg day, they risk exposing you if the fit is not proper. Loose shorts can be worn during days you need lots of jumping.

Stretchable joggers and leggings are perfect for a workout. However, just because it says it is stretchable doesn’t mean it is. Test it yourself to see if you can do rigorous movements comfortably. If not, get it replaced.

If you do yoga regularly, you can try yoga pants or capris to ensure comfort and flexibility.

5 Shoes

Shoes are also an important part of getting your activewear right. You would not want to injure yourself during those high-intensity workouts. If you wish to run, go cycling, or do squats, you need customized shoes for each activity to perform your best.

While this might seem like a huge investment, it is good to invest in two shoes: running and leg day. These two shoes will get you across most workout sessions.

When you want to lift weights, you need flat grip shoes to ensure proper form and minimize injury; that’s where leg day shoes come into the picture. However, during cardio sessions, running shoes can provide much-needed cushioning.

Wrapping Up

Investing in good activewear is a must, especially if you work out a lot. So the next time you go out buying activewear, consider these five tips to get the most out of your investment.
