Instacart Introduces New Shopper Safety Measures Including In-App Wellness Check

The company extended bonuses to support employees impacted by the virus

Instacart, the North American leader in online grocery, plans to introduce additional safety measures for its growing shopper community. In addition, the company includes new in-app wellness check for shoppers as well as the expanding of its COVID-19 extended pay policies for all shoppers and bonuses for in-store teams.

The company also announced to bring on an additional 250,000 full-service shoppers over the next two months to meet the continued consumer demand for grocery delivery and pickup in North America with the intention to return to one-hour and same-day delivery.

Instacart is sharing additional steps it’s taking support the health and safety:

Shopper In-App Wellness Check

To make it easier for shoppers to more closely monitor their health during this time, Instacart shoppers will use the in-app wellness check designed to help survey shoppers for any COVID-19 related symptoms. When shoppers complete the wellness check and confirm they are healthy, they may resume shopping or else if confirms COVID-19 symptoms, they will be logged off the platform.

Extending Bonuses for In-Store Teams Until End of COVID-19 Crisis

Due to the increased customer demand for grocery delivery, Instacart observed busiest weeks and hence, has been increasing pay for employees with new bonuses for all in-store shoppers, shift leads, and site managers. These bonuses are determined by the number of hours worked and range from $25 to $200. Noticing the continuous commitment to serve people, the company announced the extension of these bonuses.

Making it Easier for Active Shoppers to Access Health and Safety Kits –

Instacart continues to provide health and safety kits including face masks and hand sanitizers to all active shoppers. The kits are sourced and developed with several third-party manufacturers after medical experts’ consultation. The company will begin providing free health and safety kits to active shoppers who made requests through the app.

To help safely grow its shopper community, Instacart is partnering with more than two dozen companies across a number of industries to support their employees who have been directly affected by this economic downturn.
