The British drugs group AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford has developed a COVID-19 vaccine. This vaccine has achieved maximum efficacy because of the “winning formula” that has been used and is currently being evaluated by Britain’s independent regulator. The officials have claimed that this vaccine is 100% protection in the prevention of the deadly coronavirus.
Pascal’s assurance about the AstraZeneca vaccine
Pascal Soriot, the company’s CEO confirmed that his firm achieved this effectiveness equal to Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna which both are at 95 and 94.5 percent respectively. Elaborating the point Pascal said, “We think we have figured out the winning formula and how to get efficacy that, after two doses, is up there with everybody else.”
The data for the approval in regards to a mass rollout of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine has already been sent to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). It has been expected that the approval is to be granted by Monday. Initially, the vaccine showed an efficacy of 70 percent but later as the dosages jumped, the efficacy jumped to 90 percent.
100 million doses promised?
The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was the first coronavirus shot that has been authorized by the UK government. This vaccine has been given out to the thousands of people who have been a victim of the coronavirus disease. Since the government has ordered 100 million doses, it is believed this need will be met with the help of the vaccines developed by AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford. Out of these, 40 million doses are said to be available by the end of March. Also, the British government has ensured 350 million doses by the end of the next year which will be sourced by seven manufacturers during the clinical trial phase.
