The most secure collaborative platform, Wire has introduced the first open source, end-to-end encrypted collaboration video conferencing service.

Wire, an encrypted instant messaging client created by Wire Swiss, supporting iOS, Android, Windows, Linux, macOS and web browser clients  allow users to exchange text, voice, photo, music and video messages. Wire is used by various organisations in the world for collaboration and communication. Many of Wire’s employees have previously worked with Skype.

The considerable challenge today’s business organisations with remote teams, home offices and mobile workforce face is the ‘security’ in video conferencing through online platforms.

End-to-end encrypted video service

It’s the exclusive service introduced by Wire a month after its announcement. This service will be available on cross-platforms,  enabling organisations to work together more securely as the video conference through this service has end-to-end encryption.

This encrypted video service enables users to have video conferences with up to 4 parties. Participants can join using free, personal accounts or as guests directly in their web browser without any software or app.

Morten Brøgger, CEO of Wire said, “With the addition of video conferencing, Wire overtakes consumer apps by offering top-of-the line security, consumer-grade user experience, combined with the control and compliance of an enterprise solution.”

This video service implements separate encryption of each video stream with its own unique encryption key. This type of implementation increases CPU workload on machines which in turn affects battery usage and requires higher bandwidth for sending and receiving video streams. Instead of these significant challenges, Wire has managed to implement this service using VP8 codec, QVGA at 15 fps with optimum bandwidth of 1Mbit/s without much affecting CPU and battery of machine.

Conquering difficult challenges in end-to-end encrypted video conferencing service, Wire designed and executed a simple, easy to use, light and most importantly, a secure video conferencing platform.

By introducing open source encrypted video conferencing with a clean and simple user interface, Wire will become an even bigger competitor in the communication and collaboration sector.
