October 27, 2026
Skydance announced a voluntary buyout program for eligible employees on October 26, 2026, alongside a mandatory five-day return-to-office policy. CEO David Ellison and co-CEO Ynon Kreiz informed employees about the changes following Skydance’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery earlier this month.
The Skydance voluntary buyout program offers qualifying employees a one-time opportunity to leave the entertainment company with a financial separation package. Eligible employees have until November 8, 2026, to accept their offers.
The October 26 announcement follows Skydance’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery on October 6, which brought Paramount and Warner Bros. operations together under one entertainment company.
What Are the Skydance Voluntary Buyout Terms?
The Skydance voluntary buyout program allows eligible employees to leave their positions in exchange for severance payments.
The reported Skydance voluntary buyout terms generally provide two weeks of severance pay for each year of service. Individual packages may differ depending on employment circumstances and the terms communicated to qualifying employees.
Employees receiving an offer must submit their decision by 11 p.m. Eastern Time on November 8, 2026.
As reported by Reuters, David Ellison and Ynon Kreiz stated in their October 26 employee memo:
“As we bring our teams together, we recognize that not everyone will see their future here, and we respect that.”
The executives confirmed that eligible employees would receive individual communications explaining their offers and the time available to make a decision.
The Paramount Skydance buyout is voluntary, and eligible employees can choose whether to participate.
Who Is Eligible for the Skydance Voluntary Buyout Program?
The Skydance buyout eligibility requirements apply to selected employees across the newly combined entertainment business.
Skydance’s October 26 employee memo confirmed that employees who qualify would receive details about their separation packages and decision deadlines.
Skydance has not disclosed the total number of eligible employees or how many workers are expected to accept the offers.
Employees who receive an offer can review the financial terms before deciding whether to participate.
Why Is Skydance Introducing a Five-Day Return-to-Office Policy?
Skydance is introducing a five-day in-office requirement across its operations following the Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition.
David Ellison and Ynon Kreiz announced the Skydance work from office policy alongside the voluntary buyout program on October 26.
The executives explained the office requirement in their employee memo:
“We believe in-person collaboration is vital to our culture and to the success of our business.”
The Skydance five-day return to office requirement will be implemented in phases across company locations, with employees receiving advance notice.
Paramount had already introduced a five-day office schedule for employees assigned to its New York and Los Angeles offices. Warner Bros. Discovery employees generally followed a three-day in-office schedule before the acquisition.
Skydance has not publicly specified whether exceptions to the new office attendance requirement will be available.
How Does the Warner Bros. Merger Relate to Skydance’s Cost-Cutting Plans?
The Skydance Warner Bros merger was completed on October 6, 2026, in a transaction valued at approximately $110 billion.
The acquisition combined Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros., CBS, HBO, CNN, and other entertainment and streaming operations under Skydance.
According to Skydance’s official merger announcement, the combined business is targeting at least $6 billion in annual run-rate synergies within three years.
Annual run-rate synergies refer to the recurring financial benefits expected after planned integration measures are completed.
Skydance has identified technology, marketing, procurement, and real estate among the areas for planned cost savings.
The Paramount Skydance deal structure included an all-cash acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, with shareholders receiving approximately $31.02 per share.
Following the transaction, Skydance is expected to carry approximately $80 billion in debt.
Skydance’s financial targets cover several business functions and are not limited to employee reductions.
Are More Skydance Layoffs Expected in 2026?
Skydance has not announced a final workforce reduction target or confirmed whether additional layoffs will follow the voluntary buyout program.
In an October 6 message to employees, David Ellison and Ynon Kreiz stated:
“Integrating two companies will bring change, including difficult decisions that affect our workforce.”
The combined organization is expected to have approximately 53,000 employees, based on the companies’ annual filings for 2025.
What Happens Next for Skydance Employees?
Eligible employees must decide whether to accept the Skydance voluntary buyout program by November 8, 2026. Skydance will also introduce its five-day office attendance requirement in phases across company locations.
Skydance is scheduled to report its third-quarter financial results on November 9, 2026. The earnings announcement will provide the next scheduled financial update following the Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition.
The Skydance voluntary buyout program remains a one-time offer for qualifying employees. Skydance has not yet disclosed the number of accepted offers or a final workforce reduction target.
