Amazon is reportedly in advanced talks to acquire AI startup Decart in a potential $7 billion deal. The Wall Street Journal reported on October 11, 2026, that the negotiations were ongoing. The proposed Amazon Decart acquisition would bring together Decart’s AI chip optimization software and generative AI models, including Lucy and Oasis. Neither Amazon nor Decart had publicly confirmed an acquisition agreement at the time of reporting.
What Is Decart AI and What Does It Do?
Decart AI is a San Francisco-based startup founded in 2023 by Dean Leitersdorf, Orian Leitersdorf, and Moshe Shalev. The Decart AI startup develops software that helps AI developers run models across different computing chips, along with generative AI models that create and transform video and simulated environments.
Decart’s technology includes three main products:
- Decart Optimization Stack (DOS): Software designed to optimize AI training and inference across hardware platforms, including NVIDIA GPUs, AWS Trainium, and Google TPUs.
- Lucy: A model for real-time AI video generation and transformation that supports live visual editing.
- Oasis: An interactive world model that generates simulated environments for physical AI applications, including robotics and autonomous systems.
Decart’s AI chip optimization software helps developers improve how AI workloads run across different processors. Decart combines its AI chip optimization software with generative AI models designed for interactive experiences.
Why the Amazon Decart Acquisition Matters for AWS
Amazon has developed custom AI chips through Amazon Web Services (AWS), including its Trainium processor family. Decart’s software helps developers optimize AI workloads across different hardware platforms, connecting the reported Amazon Decart deal with AWS AI infrastructure, AI inference efficiency, and efforts to manage AI computing costs.
Amazon and Decart already have a technical relationship. AWS gave Decart early access to Trainium3 in 2025, according to reporting on the proposed acquisition. AWS also published results from Decart’s early Trainium testing, which showed up to four times higher frame throughput, twice the cost efficiency compared with top GPUs, and latency reduced from 40 milliseconds to 10 milliseconds. These figures apply to the reported testing of Decart’s real-time video models, not every AI workload.
Amazon has not publicly explained why it is reportedly considering the acquisition of Decart or which parts of Decart’s technology are central to the negotiations. The existing technical relationship provides context for the negotiations, but it does not establish Amazon’s intentions or confirm that a deal will proceed.
What Do Decart’s Lucy and Oasis AI Models Do?
Decart’s Lucy model focuses on real-time AI video generation and transformation. Lucy 2.5, released in July 2026, supports live video editing with improved visual effects and temporal consistency, according to Decart’s product announcement.
Decart’s Oasis model generates interactive simulated environments for physical AI. Decart introduced Oasis 3 in June 2026 as an interactive world model designed for applications such as robotics and other systems that interact with the physical world.
Lucy and Oasis give Decart a business beyond AI infrastructure software. Together with DOS, the models represent the main areas of technology Amazon could gain access to if the proposed acquisition proceeds. Amazon and Decart have not announced plans to integrate Decart’s Lucy and Oasis models into Amazon’s products or AWS services.
Who Founded Decart AI, and Who Are Its Investors?
Decart AI was founded in 2023 by Dean Leitersdorf, Orian Leitersdorf, and Moshe Shalev. Dean Leitersdorf serves as the company’s co-founder and CEO.
In May 2026, Decart announced a $300 million funding round led by Radical Ventures, with NVIDIA also participating as an investor. Decart’s other reported investors include Sequoia Capital and Benchmark.
Decart’s May 2026 funding announcement outlined its focus on AI infrastructure and world models, including its Decart Optimization Stack, Lucy, and Oasis products.
What Is Decart’s Valuation and Revenue?
Decart was valued at nearly $4 billion in May 2026, according to PitchBook data cited in reporting by the Wall Street Journal. They also reported that Amazon was in talks to acquire Decart for around $7 billion. The reported price for the Amazon Decart acquisition would exceed Decart’s earlier valuation, although Amazon and Decart have not confirmed a purchase price or transaction terms.
Decart has not publicly disclosed its annual revenue in the company announcements cited here. Decart’s funding and valuation figures do not establish how much revenue it generates.
What Could the Amazon Decart Acquisition Mean for AI Technology?
The Amazon Decart acquisition remains a reported negotiation rather than a completed purchase. An acquisition announcement from Amazon or Decart would confirm whether the companies have reached an agreement and disclose any publicly announced transaction terms.
The proposed Amazon Decart acquisition would bring together Decart’s AI chip optimization software, its work with AWS Trainium, and its Lucy and Oasis models. Amazon and Decart have not confirmed an acquisition agreement or announced plans to integrate Decart’s technology into Amazon’s products and services.
