Together, the collaboration seeks the growth and improvement in the experience for both advertisers and job seekers.

Adzuna, a UK based search engine for job advertisements has acquired the UK tech startup job board Work In Startups. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Adzuna is a search engine for job ads used by over 10 million visitors per month that aims to list every job, everywhere. Launched in 2011, Work In Startups set out to create a way for startups to more easily find tech and creative talent, without having to go through recruiters or use more generic job sites. Reportedly, it has become an important tool in UK startup hiring over the past few years.

Andrew Hunter, Co-founder, Adzuna, stated, “As we continue to grow and learn more and more about the market, we’ve realized that ‘generalist’ search is not always the best solution for all jobseekers/employers, and sometimes a focused, niche site can offer a more tailored experience and build a stronger community.” He added, “Tech startup jobs and companies are cutting-edge, early adopters and have very particular needs… and this is truly a really strong but underdeveloped market-leading community asset with a freemium model like Adzuna. So it’s a great way for us to learn better how we can take what we’re good at — tech, traffic acquisition, data etc. — and apply it to create more value for a site like this and its users.”

According to Adzuna, there are currently 1.1mn open roles in the UK, 90,000 (more than 12%) of which are in tech.

The two companies share goals for empowering the community

Diana Ilinca, Co-founder, Work In Startups, stated, “Adzuna is a global leader in the online job space, and I am firmly of the belief that Work In Startups will benefit from their marketing and technology expertise which will help accelerate the growth of the platform. In 2011, we set out on a mission to help match startups and talent together and transform the hiring space for the industry. We’ve since helped nurture a fantastic community, have been a part of thousands of successful hires and partnerships, and have made significant progress in becoming the platform of choice for both sides of the marketplace. Adzuna shares our ambition and goals for empowering the community.”

Doug Monro, Co-founder, Adzuna, stated, “We are thrilled at the opportunity to take Work In Startups to the next level, having watched it become an integral piece of the UK startup hiring scene over the past few years. It has been a fantastic resource for our key early hires, and with our experience from Adzuna and Gumtree before, we’re really excited about what we can achieve here.” He added, “We see the platform as a rough diamond that brings a strong community and bags of additional potential to grow and improve the experience for both advertisers and job seekers.”
