Amazon has purchased three domain names related to cryptocurrency. The company already has ‘amazonbitcoin.com’ and now the company has purchased
amazonethereum.com, amazoncryptocurrency.com and amazoncryptocurrencies.com.
This move of Amazone is making all think that the e-commerce giant is planning to move into the cryptocurrency space.
Amazon Pay’s VP Patrick Gauthier said in a statement before that Amazon had no plans to accept cryptocurrency because there hasn’t been much demand yet, and Amazon may simply be protecting its brand name.
As per the reports, the company has registered for the domains on Tuesday.
It is just on Wednesday, bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency smashed through a new record high price on Wednesday, reaching $6,600 for the first time, following news of CME’s plan to launch bitcoin futures later this year.
It so happened that, there were reports that Amazon is accepting cryptocurrencies, like bitcoin, but the company has never acknowledged these plans and said that it is no more than a rumor. But this rumor oft Amazon’s acceptance of bitcoin drove up bitcoin’s price immediately last month.
Eventually, Amazon seems intent on owning multiple cryptocurrency-related domain names. As pe the reports, Amazon signed up for the domain ‘amazonbitcoin.com’ three years ago. Amazonbitcoin.com now directs you straight to Amazon.com.
