Nokia launches the Snake game on Facebook using Augmented Reality

Nokia launches the Snake game

HMD Global, the new home of Nokia phones reported the availability of the Snake game on Facebook. Nokia has used Facebook’s Augmented Reality (AR) technology.

There are two snake games which differ from the original one. Because of AR innovation, users would now be able to be the Snakes.

Nokia Mobiles said in a statement that the Snake Mask game utilizes new Facebook AR technology to bring Snake to the widest audience possible.

Snake game for all smartphones

Previously, Snake game was exclusive to Nokia phones, however,with the assistance of Facebook’s AR, the game can be played globally anywhere on any Android or iOS platform.

In the Snake Mask game, players can transform themselves into the snake character using the front-facing camera of any Android or iOS smartphone. It also responds to the player’s face motion.

Additionally, with Facebook Live integration, users can broadcast their gameplay live to the Facebook news feed and while broadcasting, user’s Facebook friends can join the same game too.

Pekka Rantala, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President of HMD Global said, “The world-famous game snaked its way back into people’s hearts at MWC in 2017 when we announced Snake for Facebook Messenger.”

He further added, “Now we launch an even more immersive experience to fans by allowing them to be the snake itself and eat the apples with filters available on Facebook camera – here at HMD Global we are bringing the much-loved gaming icon to a new AR era.”

Nokia Mobiles stated that the new Snake Mask game is designed for a new social generation. Additionally, users can also invite friends to play and share scores.

The camera effect can be created using Facebook camera which is accessible from any smartphone’s front-facing camera. Nokia also started a campaign on social media using the hashtag #imasnake2.
